Thomas Moore, SVP - Viasat, Inc., President - Viasat
Satellite Ventures, LLC Tom has over 20 years of
terrestrial and satellite communications entrepreneurial and
investment experience. Currently Tom serves as a Senior Vice
President of Viasat, Inc., and as the President of Viasat
Satellite Ventures, LLC an entity established in late 2007
to commercialize the development of next generation
satellite broadband. Prior to joining Viasat in early 2008,
Tom spent seven years as the CEO and a founder of WildBlue
Communications. During his tenure at the company, WildBlue
raised half of a billion dollars, built and
launched their own state-of-the-art Ka-band satellites and
developed the technology and infrastructure necessary to
support a nationwide service business supplying two-way high
speed Internet into rural America. Prior to founding WildBlue, Tom served as the VP of Advanced Technology at
Cable Television Laboratories (“CableLabs”), an
industry-wide research and development consortium of the
cable industry. At CableLabs, Tom was responsible for the
creation of the world-wide standard DOCSIS cable modem (and
associated patented technology) that serves as the technical
foundation for almost 100 million cable modems world wide.
Tom currently serves as a founding partner in TimesArrow
Capital, a high tech venture investing firm in Colorado, on
the technical advisory board for the Telecommunication
Engineering Masters program at CU and is a founding member
of Governor Bill Ritter’s Colorado Innovation Council. Tom
holds a Masters of Engineering in Telecommunications from
the University of Colorado and an MBA (with distinction)
from the Harvard Business School.
